Cobbled Steps

It takes endurance to wander the streets of the city while watching out for uneven yet beautiful "pathways".

Church of the Prophet Elias

14th c. Athonite Cross in a square style church with a central dome and arches off each side of the cross. It is filled with stunning iconography, old and new and frescos of the late Paleologian period and which also influence Serbian church architecture. Its interior frescoes are badly damaged; its exterior "frescoes" are a social phenomenon of popular culture found in many cities.
The Ancient Baths
I unexpectedly bumped into the current renovations of the Ancient and Byzantine baths in the upper city. When this treasure is open to the public it will be a stunning gem in the city that is Thessaloniki. See this article for details and photographs of this remarkable site and how it is being renovated and reconstructed: Αποκατάσταση – Στερέωση του Βυζαντινού Λουτρού στη Θεσσαλονίκη [Restoration – Consolidation of the Byzantine Bath in Thessaloniki]
