Byzantine Journey to Greece June 24 to July 1, 2015
This journey of iconographers to Greece is led by John Fotopoulos, Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at St. Mary's College (Notre Dame, IN) and Master Iconographer Phil Zimmerman. Our understanding of iconography demands knowledge of Byzantine design and theological canons. We visit monasteries, museums and holy places throughout Byzantine Greece.
The trip begins in Thessaloniki and wends its way south through Attica, over to the island of Kefalonia, down into the Peloponnese through Mystras, and and then north to Athens with a day trip to the island of Aegina.
