Aegina is a small island close to Athens in the Saronic Gulf. While travelors visit Aegina to see the beautiful Temple of Aphaia or to swim on its beautiful beaches, thousands of Orthodox and Christians pilgrims travel to Aegina to see the relics of St. Nektarios, known for his healing and to pray at his Cathedral and monastery.
The island was a sea rival of ancient Athens. There is a 16th century Byzantine church built on ruins of the ancient Temple of Zeus Hellanios in the center of the island alongside groves of pistachio trees.
We enjoyed a wondeful meal along the boardwalk and had time for shopping, buying fruit and enjoying ice cream.
